As a parting gift to the people of Imo State for the massive votes they poured for him during the last Presidential Election, the out-going President Goodluck Jonathan has up-graded ALVAN Ikoku Federal College of Education, to a University of Education.
The President made this approval yesterday during the last Federal Executive Council meeting he presided over at Aso Rock, Abuja.
Speaking to Trumpeta Newspaper on phone, Prof (Mrs) Viola Onwuliri, who is the Minister of State for Education, said she was grateful to God and President Jonathan for listening to her agitation that Alvan Ikoku Federal college of Educationbe up graded to a Federal University.
“I thank God and Mr President for this historic, visionary and landmark approval. I feel fulfilled that by the special grace of God, I am stepping out from the Federal Ministry of Education with two Universities for our people and generation yet unborn; the Hezekiah University, Umudi and Alvan Ikoku University of Education, Owerri”.
The highly elited Prof Onwuliri told Trumpeta “To God be the glory for satisfying the hunger of Imolites and Ndigbo through our Transformation Champion, President Jonathan. God bless him”.
Also reacting to the development, the immediate past Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim told Trumpeta how he began the fight to up grade Alvan to a University, through late President Yaradua who started by upgrading Alvan Ikoku College to a Federal College of Education.
“I don’t want to Trumpet our contributions to the development of Imo State. But I must state it here that I am happy that a revolution which my administration started through the late President Yaradua has been completed through President Goodluck Jonathan, with the hard working Minister for Education, Prof Mrs Viola Onwuliri who happens to be my Deputy during the 2011 Imo Governorship election” Ohakim said.
