police....
The fear of the unknown is now pervading Ngor Okpala Local Government Area, Imo State, as the Police Authority from the Federal Capital, Abuja throw its Net to apprehend all those involved in the assassination of Hon Andy Ugwuezumba, the candidate of the Labour Party for Ngor Okpala State Assembly in the last general election.
According to impeccable sources, the Police had invited some top politicians from Ngor Okpala as part of its investigation process to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the late politician.
Trumpeta learnt that among those invited were some of the candidates who contested the election, their supporters and principals.
Sources close to Police told Trumpeta that the invitation extended to such Ngor Okpala politicians was due to information extracted from the major suspect, who is singing like a Bird in Police Net.
Trumpeta sources said that although some of those invited were released after making statements, they could still be re-invited in the course of police investigation.
Meanwhile, yesterday, women from the late politician’s community, Obiangwu, barricaded all roads leading to Imo Airport as they aired their frustration over the death of Mr Ugwuezumba.
The women all clad in Black clothes, appealed to the police Authorities to make sure that those who had a hand in Ugwuezumba’s death are brought to justice.
It would be recalled that Ugwuezumba’s vehicle was waylaid on the Umuowa-Obiangwu Airport road some weeks to the House of Assembly Election, while returning from a campaign and was shot dead, with his head blown open.
Police has since made arrests even as the matter was referred to Force Headquarters Abuja, due to the enormity of the case.
Ugwuezumba was a member of All Progressives Congress APC, where he failed to pick the ticket of Imo House of Assembly for Ngor Okpala, but later moved to Labour Party where he was given the platform to contest the election, but could not make it as he was assassinated weeks to the election.
