WOWICAN Inaugurates Exco, AS Ohakim, Onwuliri, Opara Herp on Role of Women in Nation Building;

Friday December 19th 2014 always remain ever green in the minds of Christian faithful who will witnessed the 2014 conference of Imo State Women’s Wing of CAN (WOWICAN) which featured official Inauguration of newly elected executives and installation of Mr. John Kennedy Opara as grand Patron of the Christian body.
The epoch making event held at Praise Centre Church International Owerri attracted dignitaries such as former Governor of Imo State Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, Honourable Minister of State for Education, Prof (Mrs.) Viola Onwuliri, Mr. John kenndey Opara Executive Secretary Nigeria Christian Pilgrims (NCPC) Bishop (Prof) David Eberechukwu Chairman CAN Imo State, Lord Bishops and General Overseers of various Churches too numerous to mention among others.
Speaking at the event, Pastor Eches Divine, Director of Education Youth and Women Development (CAN) Imo State charged WOWICAN to be diligent in the discharge of their responsibilities, as good ambassadors, dedicated and committed to justify the confidence repose on them by over one million Christian women in Imo State Saying the Oath of office they took will golden opportunity for the them to write their name with golden pen in the history as someone who served and contributed positively to the development of Imo State.
Pastor Eches seized the opportunity to urge Imo State Government to remember the women and youth wing of CAN Imo State, stressing they are also sons and daughters of Imo as he pointed out that they are yet to receive on single empowerment as a body from the State Government since inception of this administration.
The Clergy showered encomium on the newly installed Patron, Mr. John kenned Opara who presented a brand new Hummer bus donated to WOWICAN Imo Chapter by Mr. President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, as he described the executive Secretary of NCPC as a man of Excellence whose peerless action and Priceless contribution to national development have inspired hope for a better Nigeria.
In her Inaugural address, Pastor (Mrs.) Ebipador korie Chair person WOWICAN maintained that being a woman is a blessing and responsibility they should be proud embrace. Saying the call to serve as the chairperson of the body is a great privilege, thanking everyone for the trust bestowed upon her.
Pastor Korie pointed out that in Nigeria society today, women have been deprived of their rights, widow despite losing their beloved husband suffer greatly in the hand of in-law, tradition etc. she averred that women are dying due to ignorance, lack of information and poor heath blaming the decay in the society on failure of family unit.
