What looked like a coup to remove the Imo state Peoples Democratic Party PDP Executive and replace it with a Caretaker Committee was aborted momentarily last week in Abuja, just minutes before the President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan could give a go-ahead on the instruction.
Trumpeta learnt that a former Governor of Imo state, Chief Achike Udenwa had already been positioned to select who should assume the office of the Caretaker chairman to “rebuild the party” when the information filtered out and other Imo PDP stalwarts rallied round and aborted the plot.
This Newspaper was informed that the conspiracy to remove the incumbent state chairman, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie was hatched by the former top shots of Imo PDP, who left the party and returned earlier this year but are still feeling ostracized due to the way and manner they are being treated as they are also kept in the dark about what is happening in the party, including being left out of the party’s caucus meetings.
Trumpeta learnt that the trouble started after Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, Chief Achike Udenwa and others were barred from entering into the venue of Imo PDP Caucus meeting held penultimate week at the Owerri residence of Anyahie located at Works Layout.
Both strong politicians felt humiliated and left the venue with heads bowed, but bided for the time they will strike back which nearly came to fruition last week, but Anyaehie proved a Cat with nine lives, when Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu stepped in to stop the near-calamity, but not without pouring of insults on the Elder statesman by one Mrs Echeruo detailed to abuse the Business mogul for foiling the “coup”.
Trumpeta learnt that the former Governor, Chief Achike Udenwa, whose influence is still high in Aso Rock, booked a meeting with President Jonathan, who obliged him the opportunity.
Summoned was Chief Anyaehie, the PDP National Chairman Alhaji Muazu, with Achike Udenwa and Col Lambert Iheanacho.
President Jonathan was said to have asked Muazu to go and resolve the Imo problem, but not without asking Anyaehie to give the likes of Udenwa, Araraume and others who returned to the party their due respect. And he left, leaving Anyaehie, Udenwa, Col Lambert Iheanacho and Muazu to go on with the meeting.
Hardly had the President stepped out than Iheanacho allegedly accused Anyaehie of hoarding the Party Cards, without giving them out to the returnees to register their teeming supporters.
With only Anyaehie against Udenwa and Iheanacho, it was argued that the best way to settle Imo PDP problem and bring every body together was to dissolve the Imo PDP Executive which has over “over stayed its welcome”.
Angrily, Anyaehie was said to have thundered that he was ready at any time to leave the office, which does not even give him time to attend to his personal business transactions.
Unfortunately, when Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu learnt of the development, he stormed Aso Rock Villa and barged into the office, where the meeting was going on and stated that any attempt to tinker with present Imo PDP Exco will produce failure for the party in the 2015 election.
The old political War Horse said that from experience, what happened in 2011 will repeat itself if the Anyaehie PDP Executive is sacked and replaced with a Caretaker now.
Even when it was resolved that Anyaehie should head the Caretaker, after the present Exco would have been dissolved, Chief Iwuanyanwu stood his ground, and his view was given a superior attention, and Anyaehie retained his office.
Although it is not yet uhuru, as Trumpeta learnt that several meetings are still going on how the present Imo PDP Executive would be dissolved, but Anyaehie can rest for now.
Trumpeta learnt that some Imo PDP Guber Aspirants and other PDP Stalwarts believe that with the people that constitute the State Executive Council now their ambitions and that of their preferred Aspirants may not be realizable.
Under this situation, Trumpeta learnt, Anyaehie’s job is still up for grabs, as the cabal bent on removing him has vowed not to rest until the Nkwerre born politician vacates the mouth-watering job, especially now the elections are by the corner.
