A renewed agitation is rocking the Imo Civil Guards, a para military agency of the Imo State government created under the Owelle Rochas Okorocha era.
The fresh crisis is centered on the alleged short changing of the cadets and officials of the agency concerning allowance for uniforms.
Trumpeta learnt that following plethora of complaints that characterized the recent meeting Okorocha had with Civil Guard workers where issue of uniform was at the front burner, the governor in his magnanimity promised to give them uniform allowance running into N20,000.
Our reporter learnt that when the governor’s promise was believed to have been made available, there were shortcomings which raised uproar and complaints from various quarters.
It was alleged that a top official of the agency (names withheld) may have withheld the money to short change the cadets who deserve the allowance. Instead of allowing the workers get the N20,000 allowance, promises of new uniform were made while others got stipend lieu of the new uniform. The development is causing services disaffection with the junior workers lamenting the denial of the allowance and subsequent ordeal in hushed tones to avoid victimization.
Trumpeta learnt that the aggrieved cadets are planning to write a petition or verbally complain to appropriate quarters to ensure that the money was released to those it was meant for.
Efforts to reach the General Commandant and Officer-In-Charge, Donatus Ejifugha proved abortive as his phone was out of reach when called.
