t could be described as a clash of Titans at the Cathedral of Transfiguration, Anglican Communion, CATOL, Owerri last Sunday, as political heavy weights in Imo state stormed the church to collect various Awards bestowed on them by the Anglican church.
Present were former Governor of Imo state, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Hon Emeka Ihedioha, Deputy Governor of Imo state, Prince Eze Madumere, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, Prof Jude Njoku and Chief Ken Ojiri, (both Guber Aspirants under PDP), Deacon Chike Okafor, Imo State Commissioner for Finance, and Prof Adaku Obasi, Commissioner for Local Government.
The Speaker of Imo House of Assembly, Hon Benji Uwajumogu and Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho were both absent and sent representatives.
According to the Organizers of the Transfiguration Award, Dr Mrs Uwakwem (chairman) Bar Iheze (sec) respectively the Awardees who cut across professions were carefully chosen for their various contributions to their chosen careers and humanity.
The presiding Priest Vicar Chukwuocha dwelt his preaching on fear of God, and urged leaders to always have the good of the masses at heart, pointing out that every body must one day be called to come give account before God.
While calling out the Awardees for their Awards, the secretary of the organizing committee, who doubled as the Master of ceremony, Barr Okey Iheze warned that no political statements or chants would be entertained, but that was not obeyed as the Awardees stormed the church venue with their supporters who wanted to outshine one another to the notice of their principals.
The occasion though serene in nature, was subtly hijacked by those whose followers chanted as they mounted the rostrum. Each Awardee made pledges to the church which were not disclosed, except Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu who donated the sum of (N1m) one million naira and later withdrew it.
Araraume, Ohakim, Madumere, and Ihedioha all embraced each to the delight of the crowd, even though some murmured that such embrace was for the camera and journalists, and not from their hearts.
The priest later called them out to the Altar where they knelt down and were prayed for and urged to shun acts inimical to free and fair election.
Ohakim, Ihedioha, Araraume, Njoku, Ojiri and Iheanacho are all eyeing the Douglas House in the 2015 Imo Governorship election.
