Tragedy strucked Wednesday evening as a police sergeant deployed at the popular Oguta Motel, Imo State (names withheld) allegedly shot dead inspector Ukiwe.
An account disclosed that the incident which took place late evening of Wednesday took the neighbourhood of the area by storm and frightened residents.
The report has it that Inspector Ukiwe who was re-deployed from his Oguta base to one of the posts in Ideato, came home to visit his wife and seven children on his routine home coming before he met his untimely death.
Late Inspector Ukiwe said to be from Abia state was reported to have went into a nearby bush to answer natures call when the sergeant on duty at Oguta Motels allegedly mistook him for an armed robber and emptied his cartridge on the defenceless Ukiwe.
When contacted for confirmation, the Imo state Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwere said that he heard story of such incident but details and circumstances have not been ascertained as at press time and he cant go further in confirming the incident.
Meanwhile the corpse of inspector Ukiwe has been deposited at the mortuary as the suspected sergeant is at the state criminal and Investigation Department of the police for questioning.
