Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Imo state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and some of his appointees, few lawmakers of the Imo State House of Assemblers, keke operators, market women and CGC officials are expected to leave the state and jet into foreign countries this weekend.
The foreign trip will see some commissioners, local government chairmen and a section of other appointees move with the governor into countries like Dubal and Turkey. The cost of executing the trip abroad where not less than 171 persons as well as the purpose and vacuum it would create in the state is gingering ripples and confusion in state
It would be recalled that during the Democracy Day “State of Imo Address”, delivered by Governor Okorocha at the International Conference Centre, Owerri, the number one citizen of the state declared intention to organize an oversee trip government appointees, teachers and members of the CGC in the state.
In realization of this promise which the governor claimed was meant to inject more ideas to enable them carry out their jobs effectively in order to move the state forward, five head teachers and five principals drawn from primary and secondary schools in the state reportedly are to embark on the travel to abroad. The trip was said to have been handled by an office Government House.
Okorocha’s zeal to fulfill his ambition of sending appointees abroad reared up on Thursday at the Government House, Owerri, where arrangements have been concluded for the TC chairman, commissioners and some appointees to travel out. One lawmaker from Orlu zone is also said to be among those spotted in Govt House, Owerri, with travel arrangements getting set for the journey including CGC, Keke and Market women.
The trip is already causing panic in government circles over the purpose and main reasons why Okorocha noted for not being a spend thrift with public fund would execute such capital intensive project. Apart from the suspicion within the Rescue Mission family of the intention of the governor which see most of them keep away from the state for five days, there is heightened tension about the gains and purpose of the training workshop to governance.
As at the time of these report, selected persons making the trip were spotted in Government House finalizing arrangements. It was gathered that most of the officials were making final inquires about the trip and payment of estacode for the movement.
Most of the earmarked persons for the trip when encountered expressed doubt about the benefits of the trip to Turkey and Dubai adding that previous journey undertaken by the governor to foreign countries like Kosovo, Turkey, etc have not yielded positive results.
Imo state is expected to spend several millions for the travel as arrangements are on top gear for the suspected five days trip.
