Tough talking Imo state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has sounded it loud and clear to anybody who cares to listen that he, have the family generation and said goodbye to poverty.
Our Abuja correspondent who was in Port Harcourt the Rivers State Capital for the Fourth Nigeria Governors Forum retreat last Friday reports that the Imo state governor who was among other governors drawn from the APC family reportedly said that nothing would make him, his family and generation return to poverty.
While describing poverty as worse than the Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV), Okorocha said “I was poor and I decided to fight against poverty and nothing will make me, my family and my generations go back to poverty again. Poverty is worst than HIV, you can’t pretend to be poor” .
According to him, it was not necessary for governors and other political office holders to pretend that they were poor, adding that paraphernalia of political offices had nothing to do with poverty.
“The governor must have charisma and the president when he speaks must have charisma. You should also know political power is entrusted to you by the people and if you don’t hold it well, they will never forget you, “Okorocha added.
At the event hosted by the President of the governor’s forum and Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi were top dignities drawn across the country.
Meanwhile, an unsavoury incident occurred while the governor was on his way back from Port Harcourt. Eye witness account revealed that following the poor state of the Owerri Port Harcourt Road at Umuapu, Ohaji, a boundary community in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo state, there was a detour to the old road for the governor’s convoy to access the road. However, residents of the area cried out for help seeking the governor to have first hand knowledge of the bad state of the road.
The governor was said to have informed them that issues pertaining to the dilapidated road should be answered by one of their sons who is occupying a vintage position in the present government.
