The rejected stone has finally become the corner stone if the governor of Imo state, Rochas Anayochukwu Okorocha should keeps to his declaration of turning to the local tailors in Imo state for rescue on the stated failed contracts with foreign (Chinese) companies to produce school uniforms for the government schools in the state.
Gov. Okorocha disclosed this at the Douglas House during his recent democracy day and his three year anniversary parley with media men in Owerri.
According to the Chief executive of Imo state, he averred that the school uniform is one of the failed contracts by foreign contractors, revealing that the initial contract was given to a Chinese company based in China to produce six hundred thousand (600,000) pieces but failed to keep to the agreement, or meet up after two and half years.
However, the governor revealed that, he went further to contract another Chinese company based in Lagos Nigeria to produce two hundred Thousand (200,000) pieces and after six months the agreement looks like a mirage as they have not been able to produce significant quantity. Although what he failed to disclose is the amount of money involved in the two failed contracts.
Consequently, Gov Okorocha told journalists that he will turn to the local tailors whom he initially described as unprofessional, dupes when Imolites faulted his idea of using foreign contractors instead of local tailors earlier in his reign, which would have served as empowerment to Imo tailors.
It will be recalled that at the start of governor Rochas Okorocha’s administration, he stated it categorically clear that, the local tailors, are quacks, unprofessional unreliable, and money conscious, (dupes) therefore he will not want to deal with them but foreign contractors who will deliver on time, with professional touches and cheap. As he is in a hurry to deliver and save funds for the state. Today the opposite is gradually becoming the case.
