The Orient FM and Orient Television Stations owned by the Imo State Government, operating under the Imo Broadcasting Cooperation IBC is open to all Imo citizens for business, devoid of any political group or affiliation.
This assertion was made by the chairman of IBC Board, Barrister Ifeanyi Olumba while speaking to Trumpeta in Owerri yesterday.
The chairman disclosed that the Governor of Imo state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha believes in freedom of press, and therefore is in support of the Board in throwing the doors of IBC open to all people with business deals to transact on the Radio and Television stations.
“The IBC is open to every individual and political parties with any business to do with IBC. The Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, and the Commissioner for Information, Dr TOE Ekechi have all made this clear to all people that have business with IBC” he said.
Bar Olumba appealed to Imo people to support IBC and the Okorocha administration to serve them better, and asked all categories of staff to close ranks for the establishment to succeed better than it is now, as the challenge before his Board is to put IBC at the height of the best in Nigeria.
Reacting to a publication in Trumpeta edition of Tuesday May 13, 2014 with the caption “IBC Boils Again over missing money deducted from salaries”, the Board chairman said there was nothing like that in the establishment, pointing out that both the Board and management of IBC have no such authority to tamper with workers salary.
He however added that what the Trumpeta reporter was writing about could be the Cooperative organization of the IBC staff, where each worker saves his or her salary of N1,000, which they voluntary contribute for their welfare.
“It has nothing to do with management. It is strictly an affair of the workers who make contributions monthly to help each other. It has nothing to do with IBC Board or staff” Olumba maintained.
He commended the management of Trumpeta Newspaper, but urged the reporters to cross check their facts before publishing, and at all times reach all parties involved in every news story.
