Though the next Olympic Games is years ahead, but Nigeria can begin now to recruit talents that would possibly be boxers and karate athletes wearing the country’s colour in the next games.
The handlers of Nigeria’s athletes do not need to go extra mile to recruit the would be pugilists and fighters as potential candidates have been identified on the streets of Owerri, the Imo state capital.
Venue of the discovery of the talented fighters was Umez Eronini Street, Ikenegbu area of Owerri where a highly placed couple and revered personalities showcased their fighting prowess to be considered worthy enough to make an Olympic team for Nigeria.
Residents of the street and passers-by were stunned by the aggressive tendencies exhibited by the former member of the House of Representatives who was at the lower National Assembly, Abuja (names withheld) to represent the interest of one the federal constituencies in the state and wife, against some persons. Apart from engaging in tactical kick-boxing to subdue their challengers, the couple charged furiously to mediators who attempted to make peace.
The lawmaker who left the Green Chamber about 11 years ago after he represented a federal constituency in Owerri zone displayed some rare qualities to be branded an “Area boy”. Despite the appendage of “honourable” to his name his action and that of fiery wife left much to be desired as the public who witnessed the scene felt astonished at their public conduct.
A Trumpeta correspondent who witnessed the interesting incident revealed that trouble started when the heavily built lawmaker said to have when to a man of God overnight turned his car reversed from Whetheral Road to Umez Eronini St at Ikenegbu. In the process, a car coming out from one of the compound was hit by the ex-lawmakers vehicle.
The incident however forced the wife of the Ex-House of Reps member who was also in the car to jump out in a bang and began to slap the youngman who drove the car. The boy did not hesitate to return the slap immediately to the wife of the lawmaker before the vexed politician jumped out too to aid the wife in pummeling the young man.
Passers-by including a suspected lady police office who ran into the scene to make peace between the warring factions received flying tackles and blows from the turbo-charged former honourable member and wife.
When tempers rose, the scene turned to a free-for-all with the ex-lawmaker and wife showcasing emergency kungfu techniques. At the end of the fisticuffs that attracted a huge crowd on Sunday evening, the clothes of the ex-lawmaker and wife were torn into shreds and their foot wears nowhere to be found. It was a distasteful scene that requested onlookers to yell for more of the “wrestling and street bout.
The suspected shameless and disgraced couple however managed to escape the scene of the event half nude not after more crowd gathered to witness the event.
The victim who displayed boxing fire power was said to have attempted to join the race for governorship election in 2011 election before joining forces with the eventual winner.
Policemen later arrived the scene to effect arrest. When our reporter called at the state command headquarters, no official was willing to speak on the matter.
