Sequel to the security challenges rocking the Northern Part of the country, Imo Women on Tuesday May 13th, 2014 led by Prof Viola Onwuliri Foreign Affair Minister of State, converged in their numbers at Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, Imo State to seek God’s face for our country Nigeria and the abducted Chibok Girls.
A one day prayer and fasting which commenced at 10.am with the theme: For our Daughters we pray, attracted notable women from all works of lives as Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) and members of various associations too numerous to mention were present.
Armed with placards with various inscriptions such as for our daughters we pray, Heal our Land O God, Oh God make Haste to help us among other, were displayed by women at the venue.
Speaking during the occasion, the Foreign Affairs Minister of State, Prof Onwuliri restated the resolve of the federal government to tackle the insurgency in our country. She employed Imo women to pray without ceasing until justice is done and our daughters brought back. She also enjoined the women not to be discouraged because when there is war in the land the women and girls suffer the most.
The Mbaise born wife of late Prof Celestine Onwuliri further described Boko Haram as a deadly group which stands for against man and humanity, calling on all Nigerians to support Mr. President, Goodluck Ebere Jonathan in his fight to make the activities of the insurgency a thing of the past. She however pointed out that now is not the time to apportion blame or engage in drama but the time for all Nigeria irrespective of your religious believe to come together as one to combat the manace.
Dignitaries present at the event includes CAN President Imo Chapter, Bishop Stanford Nworgu, Rev. Fr. Ifeanyi Njoku, Amb Dr (Mrs.) Kema Chikwe, Provost AIFCE, Dr Mrs. Blessing Ijeoma, Prof (Mrs.) Edna Mathews Njoku, among others.
