it was Thomas Hobbes that said that man was solitary, poor, nasty and brutish. This philosophical exclamation again came to the fore at Kalabari Beach (KB) in Oguta LGA of Imo State, when one aged man, named Samuel Uba who was accused of impregnating his 17-year old daughter, Anna Uba told Trumpeta that it was” temptation” that led him to have conjugal relationship with his daughter.
The suspected randy father Samuel Uba who said he is from Ibiasegbe in Oru West LGA of Imo state but resides in KB where he taps rubber to eke a living escaped lynching by whiskers from angry protesters that besieged his house at KB and wanted to stuff life out of him for having underserved sex with the daughter that resulted to pregnancy. But for intervention of some personalities the sex monger would have been lynched. Mr Uba, who also claims to be a Church elder at Christian Pentecostal Mission (C.P.M), has eleven (11) children from his late two wives and expecting another one from the 5-month-old pregnant Anna, the fourth daughter in the family. The pregnant young is the first daughter of the second wife.
There was confusion in the town when youths of the area on discovering that Samuel Uba, aged 65 is allegedly responsible for the daughters pregnancy, besieged his residence. On dragging him out, the said randy father was giving some punches before wise counsel came up that he be taken to either the police or palace of the tradition ruler for disciplinary action. It was at the process that Trumpeta reporter moved in to get further reports and interview with the suspects.
In an interview with the suspected incestuous father, he claimed that the illicit act started five months ago when he forcefully had carnal knowledge of his daughter and in the process disvirgined her. He claimed to have slept with her for six (6) times until the sex escapade was exposed by the daughter’s pregnancy. Uba during the interview said he is ready to appease the land but prayed for forgiveness from all as it was devil that put him in “temptation”.
In a chat with the pregnant daughter of Samuel Uba, she narrated that her father came to her room one night and forced himself on top after removing her clothes.
Narrating how her father used to operate, Anna opined that her painful and innocent tears that night couldn’t stop him nor alert their neighbours to come for rescue since their closest neighbor is an old woman that is suffering dreadful ailment. The 17-year old Anna Uba who is a student of St Michaels Secondary School, Orsu-Obodo and still in JSS, said that her father warned her not to report the act to anybody as she will get hurt. Further investigation reveals that it was her father’s intention to sell the baby immediately her daughter puts to bed, which the daughter it was further gathered vehemently opposed it. Anna claimed that she reported to her father immediately she stopped observing her monthly flow of menstruation and that her father would have rushed her to the hospital to stop the pregnancy. While in tears during the interview, the helpless looking pregnant girl said that she has forgiven the Papa but won’t live with him anymore. She advised the father to go and re-marry since all the wives are dead.
Meanwhile, the pastor of Christian Pentecostal Mission (CPM) where the incestuous family worships denied that the man is an elder in the church. Pastor Donatus Ossy while narrating his side of the story said that he made efforts to unravel the circumstances and persons behind the young girl’s pregnancy but the family was not forthcoming on clues. The Pastor said that it was his further investigations with necessary skills that made the duo to confess of the act that led to the controversial pregnancy. The Pastor said he was shocked in the “spirit” having realized it was his church member. The man of God expressed disappointment to Anna Uba as she would have reported the first day the illicit act occurred. He added that he reported the matter to the youths of the community and informed that the Church Council has excommunicated the man. He advised all to adhere to the word of God and worship in spirit than be mere church goers before praying to God to forgive them.
Also, the youth leader of Orsu Obodo Autonomous Community, Arinze Oshimiri said that the youths confronted the incestuous father when they heard it but that he denied impregnating his daughter. That it was the Pastor’s intervention that made the man to confess and that they have handed the man to the elders of Kalabari Beach as the culprit resides there. He said that the youths are law abiding and advised the elders to act accordingly since they will not take laws into their hands .
Unconfirmed stories reveal that the man behaves in rather unusual way as his second wife died last year under certain circumstances.
The said Uba was also accused of committing such illicit acts in the bush with other girls and won’t even allow anybody especially; male folks to near her pregnant daughter as they behave like a couple. Again, it was reported that his strange exhibition led to his been evicted from the house he was living before because he was also accused of impregnating a girl living with her grand-mother after her mother’s death.
When our reporter visited Kalabari Beach, it was confusion and uncertainty as residents including the young children, youths, parents and the elders of the land were perplexed at the development. They were shocked and praying for forgiveness from God after the man must have appeased the land since they believe it is an abomination and condemnable taboo. The only property of the man brought out in the village square is his television set and a video machine.
Efforts to reach those in charge of the traditional institution in the area proved abortive as our reporter almost faced attack for probing further concerning the incident.
