Governor Rochas Okorocha has declared that his Commissioner for Finance, Deacon Chike Okafor is to him, a priceless jewel.
He made the pronouncement in Obowo council headquarters during his verification tour of projects in the area. After asserting the immense size of projects sited by his administration in Obowo exceeding 28Km of tarred roads, the governor noted that by the uncommon passion Okafor has exhibited in the service of his people, he is encouraged to do even more for Obowo.
Okorocha said, “What I have come to observe in Chike, is his love for his people. I have keenly watched him, if you give N10 Million to him, his people would get N8million or N9million out of it. And that is what gives him joy. I can boldly tell you that this young man has a future, he is an emerging political maestro in this area and I urge you all to give him your support, for indeed, he is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased.”
An appeal by the community through Okafor was instantly taken up by the Governor as he promised the reconstruct the Umuariam-Avutu-Uhume-Umunachi road otherwise known as the Sam Mbakwe road which leads to the country home of the late iconic governor of Imo state.
Okorocha also used the opportunity to reassure the people of his resolve to restore the legacies of late Sam Mbakwe.
Hear him, “Mbakwe’s legacies and projects will not suffer in my time. And perhaps most of you do not know that work has already commenced in Avutu Modern poultry, with a view restoring it to optimal capacity. We are rebuilding it and no effort will be spared to reclaim that ingenious legacy, abandoned by successive governments after Mbakwe.”
The governor however urged Obowo people to dispassionately appraise his less than three years administration in the light of the 12 years the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held sway in government.
Okorocha who reeled out the achievements of his government in less than three years to resounding applause, while lamenting the ’12 locust years of the PDP’, assured the people that their solidarity and appreciation of his efforts can only yield more democracy dividend for Obowo.
Earlier in his address, Deacon Chike Okafor, pronounced Obowo, a stronghold of the governor owing to the practical expression of good governance to the people. According to the Commissioner, no section of Obowo is left out in the gale of development of the governor, as areas that had hitherto not been trod by any government official in nearly two decades, have witnessed the presence, touch and impact of the government of the day. He commended the governor for his fatherly disposition towards him and indeed the people of Obowo.
