Free Education: Missing Pupils Stipend Rocks Imo LGA

The Transition committee chairman of Owerri-west LGA Dr Liz Ejiogu is not having any respite because of the alleged sudden disappearance of one hundred and sixty-seven thousand naira meant for the payment of stipend to pupils of Umudibia Nekede primary school.
A source who took part in the payment exercise told Trumpeta that the supervisor for Education in the local government (names withheld) had a strong disagreement with the Assistant HPM of the school who was to take charge of the payment.
All attempts to make the Assistant HPM to counter sign that the money has been paid the pupils failed as according to her, “I will not sign for money not paid to my pupils”. She wondered why the supervisor would not allow her perform a function which she was trained for.
The Assist HPM revealed that at the end of the payment exercise in the area, the Supervisor for Education was accused of taking the remaining money to his house only to surface the next day to tell stories that the money was missing.
Trumpeta learnt that all attempts to make the supervisor see reason and give convincing explanation proved abortive on account of his arrogant stance.
Meanwhile, reports say that Dr Liz Ejiogu is insisting that the supervisor would certainly refund the said sum as it was glaring he took the money home to the knowledge of all those involved in the payment exercise.
In another development, the fate of eleven schools not captured in the exercise is still hanging on the balance just as many schools were underpaid while other schools had some balance of cash after their pupils were paid, a situation which many people attributed to the laissez-faire attitude on the side of the council officials who compiled the pupils names in the various schools.
