The Governorship ambition of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume for the 2015 election is generating heat in Okigwe Zone of Imo State as political Leaders from the Area are plotting to frustrate the former Senator’s ambition.
According to information available to Trumpeta, the leaders are holding constant meetings both in Okigwe and Owerri on how to thwart Araraume’s move to grab the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Structures in Okigwe Zone, to actualize his ambition in 2015.
It was learnt that since Araraume rejoined the PDP, he has been busy cornering the PDP structure in the zone, which has created fear in Okigwe Leaders, who have now pulled their resources together to fight the two-time Senator to finish.
This newspaper learnt that Araraume incurred these peoples’ wrath by plotting to produce the Okigwe House of Representatives candidate, House of Assembly, including powering a Senatorial candidate.
It was learnt that in the pursuant of this plan, Senator Araraume has also planned to spread the positions in a way it will benefit his area to produce him as candidate for Governorship, without distorting the political balance in Okigwe.
To actualize this plot, it was learnt, Chief Araraume (Ugwumba) is alleged to have decided that the Federal House ticket will remain in the Okigwe, Onuimo axis, the Senate remains with Senator Nwagwu, if allowed by age, Amaraku gets the slot of House of Assembly, while Osu grabs the Governorship ticket. Araraume is accused of planning to foist one of his “boy” in Amaraku as the House of Assembly candidate.
However, a top politician from Okigwe zone told Trumpeta that it was no crime if Senator Araraume produces all the candidates from Okigwe zone, pointing out that if he does that, he deserves praises, and not curses, because it takes only a political icon to do that.
“Araraume is no mean politician. He is a two-time Senator, a two-time Governorship candidate. So, if he can sponsor all the candidates from his political zone, it is not an easy thing, and I support him if he can achieve the fit” the former lawmaker told Trumpeta.
He went on to say that since Araraume declared his intention to run again in 2015, many aspirants have development fever, adding that no amount of propaganda or campaign can dissuade the Senator for running in 2015.
“If God says Araraume will govern Imo State, no one can stop it. So, they are free the meet. It will not succeed” he said.
Meanwhile, the plot against Araraume’s political expansion in Okigwe continues, as another nocturnal meeting was held at New Owerri last Sunday where plan to watch Araraume’s incursion into other Zones, dominated the Agenda.
Already, the Senator has dusted his old structures in all the three zones of Imo State, which has kept many politicians on their toes.
The Senator was accused to have sent thugs led by Hon Jasper Ndubuaku to disrupt Okigwe PDP Elders meeting held at Rehemi Peace, Umualumaku, Ehime Mbano last Saturday.
Trumpeta learnt that Leader of PDP Elders Forum, Okigwe zone, Chief Fidelis Ozichukwu was presenting a report to the House, when Hon Ndubaku arrived the venue with the said thugs.
But a source close to the Senator described the allegation as false, and insult to the respected guber aspirant, adding that Araraume has nothing to do with the incident at Ehime last Saturday.
Senator Araraume contested Imo Governorship in 2007 under PDP, but his party worked against him. He tried again in 2011 under ACN but could not make it. Who knows what will happen in 2015?
