The plot the sack the Commissioner for Finance, Imo State Deacon Chike Okafor by the Owelle Rochas Okorocha Government has thickened again as he will not survive the next few weeks.
Impeccable sources from Government House Owerri told Trumpeta that Okafor had since been penciled down for sack, but only being kept in office for a covert investigation that is going on his activities to be concluded.
This Newspaper learnt that although Deacon Okafor have performed relatively well in office, but his time is up following what some source disclosed as his recent outings which have left his principal bewildered on his new-found fortunes and expanding political base with massive philanthropy which looks intriguing.
Deacon Okafor, it was learnt, has exhibited too much affluence in Obowo LGA, which has attracted the concern of his principals, who are now afraid of his financial aura.
A source from Government House Owerri told Trumpeta that Commissioner Okafor last Christmas brought in Trailer loads of rice which he distributed to the people of Obowo, even when he is not the Commissioner for Agriculture.
It was learnt that Deacon Okafor also distributed over hundreds of Electric Transformers to communities in Obowo LGA, which led his detractors to ask if he is the Commissioner for Public Utilities, or if Governor Okorocha loves some communities more than others that led him to splash over two hundred Electric Transformers to a single LGA, while too may others are living in darkness.
“Is Chike Okafor the Commissioner for Public Utilities? How did he get such number of Transformers that he distributed to every hamlet in Obowo LGA?” the source asked.
The source continued that before Chike Okafor joined Okorocha’s administration about two years ago, he was just a Bank Manager, pointing out that his own commissionership and philanthropy are taking new dimensions in Imo polity, compared to what is happening around his colleagues Commissioners.
However another source close to Okafor told Trumpeta that those afraid of Okafor’s rising political profile are having sleepless nights over the youthful Commissioner.
The source maintained that it was nothing wrong if Chike Okafor shares what he has with people of Obowo, pointing out that he was a rich man, a senior Banker, before he became Commissioner.
It was learnt that Okafor’s impending sack may not be out of incompetence, but because of plot by the Okorocha regime to weed-off all people holding strategic positions in his Government that are from other zones, and make way for his Orlu people.
It was said that Nick Oparandudu (Owerri zone) was removed from office as Commissioner for Works for Iche Best Mbanaso (Orlu zne), Bar Soronnadi Njoku Attorney-General, (Owerri zone) removed for Bar Umeh (Orlu zone) Sir George Eche, former Accountant-General removed for Mrs Udogu (Orlu zone) and Ministry of Lands and Urban Development firmly in the grip of Okorocha’s son inlaw, Uche Nwosu (Orlu zone).
The source told Trumpeta that Chike Okafor has suffered for the administration, sleeping in EFCC cells many times, and therefore need not be disgraced out of office.
“What is disgrace in removing an appointee and bringing in another? Was Okafor born a Commissioner? He has done his bit and changed his life for good, let Owelle change him for a fresh air” Trumpeta was told.
From all indications, it is certain Okafor will soon be sacked, and the question now is when?
But it was learnt that Okorocha has been told the importance of Okafor to the Governor as the 2015 election approaches, as Okigwe zone believes that the only thing they have in Okorocha Executive is the Finance Commissioner, as Ben Uwajumogu, the Speaker of Imo House of Assembly, got his position through zoning formula, not out of Okorocha’s magnanimity.
