For bachelors who are terrified by high bride price not to engage in marriage, succour is on their way as custodians of the culture and values of the society in the state, the traditional rulers have fixed N10,000 as bride price in Imo State.
In that regard, the Imo Traditional Parliament, a quashi law making body of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, under the leadership of Eze Samuel Ohiri has made the direction to that effect.
Making this known to newsmen in Owerri is the media aide to chairman of the Imo state council of traditional rulers, Mr Gift Nwokoro. He said that the Imo Traditional parliament has passed a law that made it compulsory to pay the bride price of every Imo girl at the sum of N10, 000, irrespective of academic background.
Mr Nwokoro stated this in a chat with journalists at his office in Owrri. He vehemently denied that the chairman of Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Samuel Agunwa Ohiri is a stooge to Gov. Okorocha. He said that Eze Ohiri in conjunction with other royal fathers give fatherly advice to the government and that Imolites are reaping from such advises.
When asked of the Appeal court ruling that asked Gov. Okorocha to reinstate Eze Cletus Ilomuanya as the chairman of Ndi Eze in Imo State, he said that the governor dragged the case to the Supreme Court and that no day has been fixed for ruling. He also claimed that the cae has nothing to do with his boss, Eze Samuel Ohiri as it is an issue between Gov. Okorocha and Eze Ilomuanya.
Reading out some achievements of Eze Ohiri since assumption of office, Mr Nwokoro said that his royal boss has established a cordial relationship amongst Ndi Eze and their people, increased their allowance and has been empowered by Gov. Okorocha via the community Government council (CGC). More so, he said that Eze Ohiri initiated the program “Oge Ndi Eze” at Orient FM every Monday where Imolites are oriented on traditional matters. He lastly said that traditions and culture are highly promoted in this government than previous government.
