Love’s Labours

The feeling of the phenomenon called love is quite exciting and intriguing but like a two edged sword it can also lead to brutality when wrongly applied. Even wondered why some beasts called human beings can kill when there is a failed love. When no love is lost, the situation or the result can be very tough and rough. In fact as a person, I hate to think about the bad side of a love that has gone sour. It is like fuel that when it explodes it can consume a whole nation. In view of the bad effects of a love gone sour and its detrimental effects on both parties involved, I have always wished that all people who are in love should remain in that positive dimension because the negative effect is not a good story to tell. When love goes sour it gives birth to jealousy. Jealousy you can be sure understands no other language than destruction.
I have read countless stories of love affairs that turned sour. Sometime ago we read the pathetic story of a young lady whose whole life was consumed through acid bath. Her man’s ex-was the force behind this. The victim of this circumstance had been warned once by the aggrieved ex-girl friend of the man in her life. But the victim never took the threat seriously. So, one faithful evening, the victim was walking to the market when the jealous Jezebel accosted her and threw a bucket full of acid all over her body and that singular action brought an end to the glory days of the affected victim.
Yes! all her beauties were in one split second thrown into a trash can. Her soft lips, big eye balls, rounded hip, elegant legs and many more became historical references. Her pains were doubled, the pains of peeled and disfigured body parts and the sorrow of living the rest of her life in a disfigured body cannot be imagined and that was as a result of a love turned sour. Some have been killed, poisoned, beaten to stupor and rendered useless in life just because they said No to a romantic advance. Of course, their Romeo and Juliet’s refused to accept that a fire that has once been lit and flaming should just go down or get extinguished completely just because the subject of focus was not interested. Their only belief is that the flame of love which they enjoy must keep burning and even when it stops or goes down instead of fanning it again into flame, they resort to throwing away or completely terminating the instrument.
At such points in time, the question I have constantly asked myself is: was there existence of love between the two people any time at all? Or was it mere infatuation? The reason for my wonder is because the book of Corinthians chapter 13 said that love counts no error, it suffers all things and endures-all things. It did not say kill or mien when the flame is down.
I am not praying that the two hearts that beat as one should ever beat differently. In fact my sincere wish is that when it is no longer working out for both parties they should not grab at each others throats, rather they should find an amicable and a peaceful way to settle their scores.
As humans, we have committed one sin or the other in the course of our livelihood. You know Jesus Christ shed his blood on the cross for mankind, when he ascended to Heaven, he did with a garment that was white and spotless. Even while on earth, he was surrounded by sinners like, Judas Iscariot, Peter the Rock, James and John, yet he maintained a spotless garment till his death. No wonder he was described as a Nazarene in whom there is no guilt. He lived for a period of thirty three yea^s, a life of example. He died and ascended expecting those he died for to tow this same path of righteousness. Rather than follow his path, the world decided to follow an iniquitous lane. Yet this architect of love, and the embodiment of goodness, peace and kindness has remained calm all the way. I mean He had the capacity to consume the \Nor\6 with fire in one second, yet He left the world to repent from their evil ways. Until this point of writing, God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are still hopeful that those created in his image will one day come to the full knowledge of Him. Yes patiently the prince of peace has forgiven the \Nor\d their sins when they asked for forgiveness. He has shown mankind kindness and this is the reason why many are still alive enjoying the good pleasures of His kindness. Every kindness and benevolence extended by God have been possible because He has true love for the children he created. When He travailed, He prevailed in love. Even though he is a consuming fire, he hardly uses negative flames on us.
Invariably, when two people come together in love, they should practice God’s kind of love devoid of any harm. And for crying out loud, if along the way, the other partner says it is over and you have done your bit to bring the souring love situation under control and it is still not working out for both of you, you can quietly and maturely back out without throwing a dagger at the other person’s throat.
And you can survive the bad days, if you have an open mind and equally can create room for eventualities. Life’s issues often times than not do not happen as we wish. If wishes were horses, they say beggars will ride on horses. So when you have a particular ambition and it doesn’t work out as planned, you don’t have to kill yourself or stab another.
I am not oblivious of the fact that wonderful moments have existed but when it is not working, please let go quietly and peacefully. Remember that when you love a bird you don’t cage it, let it fly, if it so desires. If it is truly yours, it will definitely fly back into your waging arms. But if it doesn’t, simply smile back to your bedroom because your God given bird will surely fly into your arm where it will have a lasting stay, and you will be forever happy for it. Just let love flow, so that the human society can immensely benefit from the fruits of love.
GOD’S GRACE!!
