People of Ohaji in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo State have joined to protest the planned balkanization of courses from the main campus at Umuagwo to other places under the multi campus system.
In a statement made available to Trumpeta, the people under the aegis of Ohaji Progressive Union, Diaspora, registered their protest and complete disagreement with the planned relocation of School of Engineering Technology and School of Business Management of the Polytechnic from Umuagwo Ohaji, to another location in Orlu and Mbano respectively.
According to the statement signed by Egbuchulam Onyiri, and Arch Fitsqerald E Umah, President and Secretary General respectively, as well as the PRO, Barr Nkem Eke, and other branch leaders, “the people of Ohaji are stunned that this administration has treated them badly in all areas of life and worst than any other administration in the history of Imo State by denying them the provisions it had before 2011”.
While stating that it does not question the authority of the state government to establish multi-campuses for the state-owned Institution, it kicked against removing existing courses in Umuagwo to establish the new campuses at Orlu and Mbano, which they described as mere ploy to rob Peter in order to pay Paul.
“We the people of Ohaji in Diaspora totally reject the balkanization on Imo Poly, Umuagwuo-Ohaji in any form and demand the immediate return of all departments and schools that have been relocated from Umuagwo”.
The aggrieved Ohaji people in Diaspora lamented over the closure of the Umuokanne General Hospital, Umuokanne Ohaji, has been turned to a carcass as the medical personnel and equipment have been moved away. “The General Hospital was serving the whole 14 towns in Ohaji. The people no longer have access to quality health care but now resort to local remedies and quacks” they concluded.
