Hope Rises for Heartland, Team Meets Gov Okorocha Again
It is no longer news that players of Heartland football club of Owerri are being Owed accumulated signing on fees for two seasons, match bonuses and other entitlements as government will for the umpteenth time meet with the players with the aim of resolving the lingering debts.
His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and his deputy, Prince Eze Madumere have met individually with the players on same issue but are yet to break the ice or record any feasible breakthrough.
Both parties were originally scheduled to meet today, Thursday December 19 but words from the Government House suggest that it has been moved to Saturday December 21 as the Gov is due for Abuja between Thursday and Friday.
Meanwhile the parley whenever it holds is being seen by many as the last opportunity for the government to reach an agreement to the satisfaction of both parties as well as stem the imminent massive movement of players that stares the side in the face at the moment.
Heartland had a tumultuous campaign in the 2012/13 season due to player’s threat of boycott leading to the sides abysmal finish on the 11th position with 52 points.
It is gathered that most of the top players are holding on to know the outcome of the meeting before deciding on their future for the 2013.14 Glo primer league season.
There are strong indications that the governor who on Tuesday night threw a Christmas party for Imo workers at the Heroes Square with lots of goodies promised to the workers will at the meeting (with Heartland) not only unveil their own largess (xmas) but fulfill the promises made to the team in their last meeting.
