A woman who refused to disclose her identity has been delivered of an abnormal baby last week at Uzoma clinic and maternity Home, along Eke Ahiara,/Aboh road, Aboh Mbaise LGA of Imo State.
The baby which was delivered through caesarian operation by Dr Uzoma Ekwuribe due to the inability of the baby’s mother to deliver through normal process was born with abnormal tumour on her head. The baby’s mother a widow of about 25 years of age said she has had two previous births with an only surviving daughter before this unfortunate incident.
When a report went to the hospital to find out from the doctor what could lead to such situation or to see if there is anything that could be done to remedy the situation and save the new born baby the trauma and pains of living or dying with her ugly condition, the nurses called the doctor on the phone but he responded that he was in church. He requested that the reporter should drop his number so that he will call later.
As at the time of going to the press, Dr Uzoma Ekwuribe is yet to call and any attempt made to get his member so as to call him, has been rebuffed. The whole situation is being shrouded in secrecy as the public is being prevented from seeing the baby which heightened the rumour and insinuation that the baby is a monster.
Earlier the rumour has spread around Mbaise that a woman has given birth to a monster before our reporter went to confirm the true position.
Meanwhile some experts that spoke to our reporter from abroad had this to say. “The child needs serious and immediate medical attention, how I wish that our medical practitioners in Nigeria would recognize their limitations and admit their incompetence in some aspect of medical field and seek for help in due time. Had there been an ultra sound in the early stage of the pregnancy, this would have been dictated and appropriate action taken. It’s not too late to ask for help from outside world experts if possible, for the little baby who did nothing to deserve this”.
There are also speculations that abuse of drugs during pregnancy or attempt to abort the baby earlier by the mother may have caused the situation
