The coordinator of the South East Code of Conduct Tribunal, Barr Chukwuemeka Pius Ihunna has challenged the traditional rulers and public office holders in Imo State to declare their assets before assuming public offices.
Speaking at the Imo Youth Summit 2013 pre-summit convention programme which held recently in Owerri, Barr Ihunna frowned at some public office holders and traditional rulers in Imo State fro non-declaration of their assets before assuming duties as the chairman of the Community Government Council. He reiterated that anybody who presides over the public fund is no doubt a public office holder as regarding the position of traditional rulers in the state.
“I have not heard that royal fathers as the Chairman of CGC have picked forms for declaration of their assets. It is illegal declare assets at the Bearue.
The royal fathers are not angels. They have properties before stirring the affairs of the public he argued.
The coordinator expressed dissatisfaction that the Tribunal has not sat even once since it was sited in South East in 2011 adding that Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has crippled the court hence he refused to pay counterpart fund to enable the court kick off in the state. While speaking on his lecture titled “The Enhancement of Democracy & Economic Development” Barr Ihunna noted that everybody is affected by the government policy urging the youths to remain the catalyst of positive change.
In a remark, the National President of Youth Assembly, Dr Harold Wilson Onuimo described the gesture as the means of uniting Imo Youths in to brainstorm and proffer a way forward in the governance of Imo State. Dr Onuimo stated that every participant at the event is no doubt concerned with the plight of the youths adding that the greatest challenge facing youths is the ability to graduate from school and secure jobs. He revealed the plans by the youths to take over leadership mantel of Imo State come 2015.
Meanwhile, the pre-summit was well attended by the representatives & delegations of different youth organizations in Imo State including President of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly, Comrade Precious Nwadike, Engr Okey Osunwa, the summit planning committee chairman among others.
